Abstract
In the modern world, the labor market requires specialists of a new quality - professionally competent, with a high level of general cultural competence, patriotic, knowledgeable in foreign languages, mobile and competitive. However, the insufficient development of issues relating to the set of both professional and general cultural competencies and the mechanisms for their formation and development within the higher education system does not make it possible to realize fully this demand of society. The main task at this stage is to systematize and improve the forms and methods of general cultural training at the university and select the optimal ways to introduce them into the educational process using the example of the discipline "Foreign language".
