Abstract

A new algorithm for describing the development of the semantics of verbal derivatives in German is proposed based on a comparison of the propositional model of the actual meaning of a verb with its basic propositional (typical) model. The latter is a proposi- tional structure reconstructed from the prototypical semantic features of the affix and verb stem. The developed descriptive algorithm allows one to explain the preservation and decline of semantic articulation by the preservation or change of the typical model.
