The research focuses on the phenomenon of linguistic purism: the associations in Germany, the Toubon law in France, and the current legislation of the Russian Federation. The interrelation of linguistic borrowings with the processes of formation of cultural and national identity is considered. Special attention is paid to the interaction of state policy, legal mechanisms, and public attitudes in regulating the linguistic environment. Considering the urban space of Chelyabinsk, the study demonstrates that borrowings affect both the structure of the language and the unique cultural features.
