Abstract

The article examines the features of the transfer of speech acts of disapproval, in particular the speech acts of “threat” and “reproach”, in W. Faulkner's novel “The Sound and the Fury” and its translation into Russian. The work expandsthe understanding of speech acts as means of social regulation and interpersonal conflict. The authors conclude that the translator manages to adequately convey the structure, emotional load and communicative purpose of the speech actsin question. In general, the analysis indicates a successful adaptation of specific ways of expressing speech acts of threat and reproach while maintaining their impact on the reader.
