Abstract

Simultaneous interpretation remains the prerogative of the human interpreter, as it presupposes rendering not only linguistic elements, but primarily the semantic component of the original message, which needs to be transformed in the process of pragmatic adaptation for the target audience. Compression and decompression strategies, used as tools of pragmatic adaptation, play a key role as they allow interpretor to provide effective communication, which is especially important at international events. The article presents the results of the research on how many times interpreters have used compression and decompression in the process of pragmatic adaptation in simultaneous interpretation from Russian into English during a panel discussion at the Russian Energy Week.
