Abstract
The article is devoted to the problem of representation of the Russian verb’s semantic characteristics in the structure of stage directions of A. Chekhov’s play “The Cherry Orchard” and in its English-language translation version based on statistical methods of corpus linguistics. Verbs are an important element of a dramatic text and serve as one of the means to express dynamics/static and emotional effect in the stage directions’ structure. The authors conclude that in the translation C. Garnett selects English lexemes equivalent in meaning to Russian verbs, which, in turn, contributes to the correct interpretation of Chekhov’s stage directions.
