James Joyce’s musicalization devices in Finnegan’s Wake and its translatability challenges

Abstract
The paper aims at revealing certain linguistic and musical techniques of J. Joyce in Finnegan’s Wake, as well as studying the challenges of their translation. The multi-aspect characteristics of the writer's musical devices are given. Analysis of translations into Russian (A. Rene, A. Volokhonsky, S. Divakov,O. Bragina), German (D. Stündel, H. Beck, W. Schrödter, U. Blumenbach and R. Markner, K. Reichert,F. Rathjen) and Spanish (M. Zabaloy) made it possible to identify some translation strategies followed to convey the “sound” and “sense” of the source text.
