Abstract


The paper considers the devaluing speech behavior of the reacting addressee in the process of empathic communication. The subjects of the study are depreciation illocutionary types of verbal empathy in the sphere of empathy. The aim of the study is to present depreciation as one of the mechanisms of empathic communication. A pragmatic analysis of direct and indirect forms of depreciation within the framework of an empathic message is described. The hybrid nature of the illocutionary force of devaluing speech acts, as well as the ways of their linguistic manifestation, is revealed.
