Abstract
The article is devoted to linguistic typology and its metalanguage that may include several specific bases of cross-linguistic contrast each of which makes a separate language etalon. The aim of a linguistic research is establishing universals of language, namely universals in the lexical system of language. There are several types of semantic universals related to the lexical system of language: semantic field universals, universal relations within a certain semantic field, and universals of the inner form as part of meaning of a lexical unit.
