Abstract

The article studies the problems of translation of paradox in M. Y. Lermontov’s novel “A hero of our time” (1840) and its translation from Russian into English performed by M. Parker (1947), J. H. Wisdom and M. Murray (1924). The most peculiar types of paradoxes, including the paradoxes based on anatomy, are defined in M. Y. Lermontov’s prose. A comparative analysis of semantic paradoxes is carried out in the original and its English-language translations.
