Abstract

This article discusses precedent toponyms as a means of constructing a real artistic space. They function as specific geographical objects necessary for the description of Siberia and Lake Baikal in the novel by S. Tesson “In the forests of Siberia”. The precedent toponyms used by the author represent nominative, linguocultural and meaning-producing units, with a large amount of geographic, historical, cultural and ethnopsychological knowledge. As nationally marked signs, they contain cognitive information reflecting the mentality of the Russian cultural community of Siberia. The toponyms used in the text generate new meanings that expand the content of the text when it is perceived by the educated reader.
