Linguistic manipulation in medical discourse (using the example of an English-language TV series)

Abstract
This article examines linguistic manipulation in medical discourse as a psychological influence on the recipient in order to change his opinion and behavior in the interests of the manipulator - doctor. Verbal and non-verbal manipulation strategies are defined, and the following verbal means of manipulation in the field of medical speech act are analyzed in detail: compliments, taciturnity, expression of complicity, use of metaphors, medical terms, the pronoun “we”, and the clarifying question “understand?”, repetition.
