Abstract


The article presents an analysis of using linguistic means of irony and sarcasm in speech acts of gratitude in the German-speaking parliamentary environment and reveals the communicative intentions of including irony and sarcasm in a speech expressing gratitude in parliamentary discourse. The elements of sarcasm and irony in speech acts of gratitude aimed at discrediting political opponents contribute to softening criticism. Ironic acts of gratitude aimed at cooperation or compromise lead to a relaxation of the communication environment.
