Abstract


In this paper, basic characteristics of English business letters are given. In the process of studying the material, some new tendencies in writing business emails in English were observed, such as appearing of semi-genres, existing of various names for one type of a letter, possibility of using semi-official structures in formal letters, simplifying some smothered expressions and even framing clichés. These tendencies are taught to students studying English as a second language in the course of Business correspondence at Omsk State Technical University.
