Spanish exonyms and endonyms as markers of national identity

Abstract
The article is devoted to Spanish exonyms and endonyms, the specifics of their functioning and related terminological features. The statement is put forward that such toponymic nominations can be considered as linguistic markers of national identity. The difference between such linguistic units is shown, examples are given. It is proven that an exonym in Spanish can be a derivative from an endonym. Conclusions are made about the most productive directions in further toponomastic research.
