Quantitative analysis of the components of the lexical-semantic group “Military Actions and Operations” in the original and translation of S. Crane’s novel “The Red Badge of Courage”

Abstract
The article is devoted to a quantitative analysis of the text of S. Crane’s novel The Red Badge of Courage (1895) and its Russian translation. It identifies key military-related lexemes belonging to the lexical-semantic group «Military Actions and Operations» which is part of the lexical-semantic field «War». A count of words in their base form (lemmas) and their occurrences was carried out using the Python programming language, which made it possible to demonstrate that discrepancies in the frequency of military terms in the original and in the translation affect the semantic content of the text. The results of the study can be used in teaching literary translation.
