Abstract
The article examines the axiological dominant of “appearance” in English drama discourse of the 20th–21st centuries, based on British and American plays, interpreted from discursive-axiological and cross-cultural perspectives. Through comparative and diachronic analysis, it is proven that in British drama, appearance primarily functions as a terminal value, whereas in American stylized dialogue, it is represented as an instrumental resource embedded in pragmatic strategies for achieving social success.
