In the article, for the first time in the modern Karachay-Balkar language, one of the significant components of the national picture of the world, the concept of "salt", is studied. In the work, based on the oral folklore of the Karachays and Balkars, mythology, paremiology and phraseology, the main ethno-linguistic, ethno-cultural functional features of this concept are identified and described. It also draws attention to the use of this concept in folk medicine, in medical treatment and preventive institutions. The theoretical and practical significance of the study is determined by the fact that the range of issues under consideration, where the main category in the scientific and linguistic description of the linguistic reflection of the world is the concept of "concept", is of great importance in terms of comparative study in the national and cultural aspect of related Turkic languages. In the study, a comparative analysis is carried out taking into account the use of the concept of tuz "salt" in other languages.The results of the study can be used in lecture and seminar courses on the theory of language, linguafolklore studies, as well as in the preparation of teaching aids for the Karachay-Balkar language.
