Abstract


This article is about one of the types of audiovisual translation, namely, subtitling. The authors of the article present a brief overview of the research on subtitling conducted by foreign scientists. Within the framework of this work, the issues of the history of subtitles, the stages of formation, and the current state of subtitling in the German-speaking space are highlighted. The research addresses issues of cognitive processes, the technical working conditions of professional translators of subtitles, and the prospects for the development of this type of audiovisual translation. The article provides a detailed classification of the characteristic features of subtitling, which include attribution to a specific language, target audience, methods of creating subtitles, data transmission channels, and creators of subtitles.
