Abstract
The article deals with the problem of comparing the original and the translation of a literary text using statistical research methods. The relevance of the work is due to the growing interest of researchers in the possibilities of applied methods of computational linguistics in the study of the quantitative component of text corpora and the study of certain linguistic phenomena of originals and their translations. The novelty of the research is connected with the attempt to use the statistical method to analyze the American writer William Gilmore Simms’ text Grayling; or Murder Will Out (1841) and the translation of the text made by I. M. Bernstein (1984). With the help of the AntConc text linguostatistical analysis program, information was obtained about the ten most frequent lexemes in the original and translated texts. The conclusion is made about the fractal self-similarity of the lexical structure of the text. The use of statistical methods of literary text analysis can contribute to improving the quality of translation.
