Abstract

The article dwells on the meaning making potential of metaphor and personification on the examples of concept “light” in the literary discourse of T. Pratchett. It is assumed that the development of meaning and the degree of its change differs in metaphorization and personification. Metaphorization leads to a more significant semantic transformation - a “semantic shift” of the conceptual system, whereas personification causes a change in the peripheral area so that the concept acquires additional anthropomorphic features.
