Abstract
The article attempts to identify and analyze several Shakespearean motifs in A. Strindberg’s play “Father”. A comparative analysis of the texts has shown that the “Father” contains intertextual links with the tragedies “Othello” and “Hamlet”, the comedy “The Merchant of Venice” by W. Shakespeare; at the same time, most of the Shakespearean motifs used by Strindberg are multi-level reminiscences from “Hamlet” (“poison of doubt”, “letter of death”, the motif of a disappointed father, the motif of madness, loneliness, betrayal, female treachery and inconstancy).
