Abstract

The article discusses the process of introducing land collection in the аppanage settlements of the Southern Urals, which began in the 30s of the XIX century. It is noted that during the reorganization, a completely different taxation system was introduced, taking into account not only the quantity, but also the quality of the land, the income received by peasants from the land allotment. Revealing the sources and the pace of this process based on the analysis of archival funds, the author gives a generalized description of the problem under consideration and comes to the conclusion: the introduction of a land levy instead of a poll tax led to an increase in peasant payments, consequently, an increase in unit income, while reducing the size of peasant allotments. The paper shows that with the help of the land collection, the specific department managed to ensure a non-subsidized receipt of cash payments from peasants covered by this taxation system.
