Abstract

The article is devoted to the research of inappropriate jokes as kind of thematic taboos in English linguistic culture. On the basis of dialogues from British films of the 21st century, the author identified and demonstrated a number of inappropriate topics for jokes: death, religion, nationality, intimate relationships, and physiological processes of the organism. The author considers that these topics are the most offensive, degrading the honor and dignity of not only the participants of the conversation, but also of other people.
