Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify characteristics of founding cities in the southern Urals, the subject of the study - cities of the southern Urals, up to the present time, industry remains the main city-forming factor in the smooth action of which depends on the entire urban infrastructure, and the prospect of urban settlements for employment. An important factor of urban development in the Russian Federation is also their attractiveness to internal migrants. Of course, the cities of the southern Urals possess these characteristics.
