Abstract

The present article is about studying some semantic and grammatical features of the Anglo-Saxon inscription from St. Mary’s church in the light of historical dialectology. It should be noted that the inscription is a kind of carved ornament on the wall of the church building, namely, over the arch of the south porch. It is also noteworthy that the religious inscription is written in Old English but not in Latin as it was compulsory for Catholic Europe at that time. As far as the lexical length of the inscription is concerned, it bears 5 lexemes. This inscription dates back to the second half of the 10th century as St. Mary’s church at Breamore was built in around 980 AD.
