Abstract

This article is dedicated to the study of the axiological potential of paremiological units in Russian and English languages. The fundamental factor in forming the linguistic worldview is expressions and proverbs that are passed down from generation to generation. Proverbs provide an opportunity to examine not only the basic, religious, and humanitarian beliefs of the people who speak a particular language, but also to give a series of general ideas about life, consciousness, and worldview of specific individuals. For this reason proverbs and sayings are considered an important linguistic unit that describes, spreads, or reveals the common features of national character and mentality. Paremiological units reflect social relationships, values, and attitudes, as well as encompass cultural, linguistic, social, and psychological assumptions.
