Abstract
The article presents an analysis of the data from a survey of foreign students in order to identify the psycholinguistic and cognitive characteristics of respondents’ perception of the lecture genre. The results suggest that many foreign students do not have a clear understanding of a lecture as a particular form of communication, and therefore have difficulty in developing and applying effective strategies of discourse comprehension. It is necessary to explain specifics of different formats and genres utilized in university education to foreign students and help them set appropriate communication goals.
