Abstract

The article presents the results of system analysis of stage directions in English drama of the 20th and 21st centuries in terms of the discourse-axiological approach. A six-component linguaxiological typology of stage directions, which shape a special sub-discourse within a stylized dialogue, is explained and illustrated. It is proved that the playwright's comments accompanying the characters' evaluative remarks detail complex value-evaluative meanings and participate in the construction of the linguaxiological level within the communicative situation.
