Abstract

The article describes syntactic, semantic and communicative features of verbally incomplete utterances based on the material of the French language. The incompleteness of the syntactic structure does not allow them to correspond to the status of the sentence. Because of the implicitness of semantics, they are not nominative units, but iftheir reference is preserved, they function as semantically significant units. The connection of verbally incomplete utterances with pragmatics is due to the recipient's motivation to adequately perceive a hint through an omission.
