Abstract

In order to establish mechanisms for the coordination of foreign words and determine their genus, we carried out the analysis of the linguistic material of the National Corpus of Russian language and the data of the associative experiment. It was proved that the associative approach is dominant in determining the genus of unchangeable lexemes. At the same time, traditions and customs preserved in the language, stable connections and phrases have a greater impact on the linguistic consciousness of a person than a conditional agreement on the use of foreign words in the neuter genus.
